Oppo has announced that it will be unveiling its new smartphone — the R9S on October 19 and has dropped hints that the new model will feature Sony’s latest IMX398 image sensor for its camera. The new IMX398 is supposedly more advanced than the older IMX300 sensor used in Sony’s own high-end Xperia smartphones and features a 16MP sensor with duel-pixel technology.
The sensor will be paired with an f1.7 lens putting the R9S on par with Samsung’s Galaxy S7. To drum up hype for its the R9S’s imminent launch, Oppo has sent out media invites for the launch event besides airing a TV commercial on Chinese television.
The R9S is rumored to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 4GB of RAM, a 5.5 inch HD 1080P display and 64GB of internal storage. Battery capacity is expected to be a decent 3010mAh featuring Oppo’s Super VOOC fast charging technology. Two variants of the R9S are expected to be unveiled — the the R9S and the R9S Plus which, as the name suggests, is the pricier and more advanced version.
All these details should be taken with a pinch of salt at the moment since they’re still mostly rumors.
