The Xiaomi Smart 1080P WiFi Camera Is Not Your Ordinary IP Camera

Written by Andrew Maxwell

What Features Does It Have?

For starters, we hardly need mention that this camera has a resolution of 1080P, which is a big improvement on lesser models, and is ideally suited to home security. It picks up details other cameras can’t, thanks to its modern CMOS sensor and 8x digital zoom. On top of that, it uses an F2 aperture and has a 110 degree ultra-wide field of view.

When it comes to angle of view, the Xiaomi 1080P has one cool feature that sets it apart from most IP cameras — the ability to magnetically stack two cameras on top of one another with both cameras pointing at different directions to obtain video feeds that can be merged into one super wide 180 degree angle of view!

One of the most talked about features is the camera’s night vision capability. In the absence of light, the camera will automatically switch on its IR lights, or the two built-in 850nm LEDs it has, which provide night vision up to a range of 9 meters. The view at night is just as clear as it is during the daytime, when using this feature.

Further features include sound and motion detection, plus detection of smoke and carbon monoxide. In the event of a positive detection of the latter two, the smart camera will trigger an alarm.

When monitoring the camera remotely, you can engage in two-way communication. This is often used when someone calls at a person’s house, or when they are remotely supervising workers. It can be used for these and a variety of other purposes quite easily, as the camera’s magnetic bracket allows it to be mounted on any metal surface. It uses WiFi to send you images by email and is compatible also with Android and iOS.

For more artistic or scientific uses, this camera has timelapse capabilities, meaning you’ll get a sharper view of those eggs hatching, or the moon’s path in the sky.

What Are the Benefits of this Camera?

The most obvious benefits come from the wider aperture and sharper resolution, which allow you to see more and in greater detail. Whether you’re simply communicating with your loved ones or monitoring security, being able to see as much as possible, as clearly as possible, is an obvious benefit. In terms of security, the night vision and infrared capabilities are also of great benefit.

For those who are interested in security, this camera gives you a lot of capabilities in one go. You can be alerted immediately upon detection of noise, motion or even smoke. Even better, whether it’s a parcel being delivered, a neighbor’s cat, the hoot of an owl in the night or something more sinister, you’ll receive images showing exactly what has disturbed the peace. Best of all, there’s no hiding under the cover of darkness, either. If thieves are sneaking around your garage thinking they can’t be seen, you’ll be getting their mugshots in crisp, clear night vision, ready for their prosecution.

The Xiaomi Smart 1080P WiFi IP Camera is now available at GearBest for $49.99.
