When it was released, the Xiaomi Mix dazzled everyone, thanks to its impressive ceramic body and – perhaps most importantly – its display, which doesn’t have any bezels. Despite having wooed potential customers the world over, Xiaomi has only been able to produce a limited number of these phones, leaving plenty of people empty-handed and disappointed. That could all change now as Elephone has elected to start producing one of its better phones on a larger scale.
- Triple bezel-less design
- Android 7.0
- 5.5 inch display (1920 x 1080)
- 6GB RAM / 128GB ROM
- Helio P10 (MT6755) Octa-Core
- ARM Mali-T860 MP2 700MHz
- Dual micro SIM
- 13MP rear camera (with Sony IMX258 sensor)
- 8MP front camera
- 3000mAh battery
Like the Xiami Mix, the Elephone S8 also has a bezel-free design. Even more impressive, is the fact that it has a curved-edge design – the overall effect of which serves to highlight the absence of bezels on the Elephone S8’s display. If you look closely at the Xiaomi Mix and similar phones, such as the Sharp Aquos, it is in fact possible to see a tiny bezel. That can’t be said about the Elephone S8, with its 2.5D curved glass to cover it.
In terms of performance-related features, the Elephone S8 will use the Helio X27 SoC – MTK’s best high-end processor to date, meaning that users are in for a treat when it comes to processing power. This new processor reaches up to 2.6GHz, with a GPU up to 875MHz. MTK has significantly improved the software and algorithm for cooperative scheduling of CPU/GPU for this processor, when compared with its predecessor, the Helio X25. Performance is improved by around 20% overall.
In addition to the improved processor, the Elephone S8 will have 128GB of internal storage. Its other features are based on those of its older incarnation – the S7 – albeit with even more goodies to look forward to. Among those are the overall design of the camera and the fingerprint sensor, which Elephone tells us will be groundbreaking innovations with global impact. Watch out Xiaomi!
